I remember the first day, I walked in the college!! It was all alone. Now that I was a part of a graduate college, it was quite different. I walked towards the seminar hall for the orientation programme, & I see a very charming, friendly lady smiling, who simply vanished all my fear of first day in college!! That’s how I met my dearest professor, my mentor, my inspiration – Prof. Deepa Makkad.
Since then these two years of college journey with her has been an epitome of amazingly cherishable events!
I definitely had many teachers in my school days. I have learned a lot from everyone of them. But then there is always one teacher who makes a place in your heart, to whom you always listen , respect and who guides you, increase your aptitude, confidence and helps you to be a better person in this world so that everyone around you applauses you and be proud of you. That is what makes my Prof.Deepa Makkad unique, special and my inspiration.
Prof. Deepa Makkad is currently the head of BMS department in Western College of commerce & business management, Sanpada. A Master of Commerce, a Master of Philosophy and a doctoral (PhD) degree holder, she has been imparting pragmatic knowledge to all the budding talents for more than a decade in the stream of management and mass media. She not only teaches BMS subjects like Business communication, business environment, Marketing management, Public relation and other core subjects, but with full enthusiasm organises seminars, guest lectures, outdoor management training , industrial field visits and study tours both national and international like Bangalore, Jaipur, Delhi, Agra, Singapore, etc.
Infact, she herself has conceptualized and launched BMS inter-collegiate management fest “Genesis” in 2010. She is also the head of “Unfair means” committee and preaches complete discipline to all her students. It would not be wrong to say that she has completely changed the college ambience in both academic as well as in other curricular activities.
Prof. Deepa Makkad always aimed in imparting pragmatic knowledge to all her students. She has always emphasized on self – learning. She is always keen on making her students more logical, more independent and stress-free from the so called “exam syndrome”. For the same, she conducts regular counselling to all the needy students. She completely believes in changing the syllabus into useful, applied knowledge and the traditional teaching methodology.
She has the ability to identify the hidden talents of all her students and motivate them to enhance them for their own benefits and thus has helped many students to enhance not only their academic abilities but also their other talents. Under her guidance and motivation, many students have made her proud by winning accolades in various other inter-collegiate competitions like presentation, debates, fashion show, group dance, skit and many other management events. She never says “No” to any idea.
Currently she is planning to conduct “Entrepreneur fair” to enhance student’s entrepreneur skills and form various activities clubs where all the students can enhance their other talents along with academics and emerge as a talented all-rounder. She is also working to bring together the alumni and the placement cell under “Recruitment drive” programme, so that the students get benefited by the corporate knowledge and remain aware of the industry.
She also actively takes part in the seminars in various other business schools.
Right from the first semester, her highly friendly, compassionate nature alongwith motivating and intellect persona, kept me highly attracted to her. Her lectures are always interesting, highly interactive and always engaging. Our college had minimal guest lectures and days’ celebrations, no convocation ceremonies or fresher/farewell parties. It was purely boring college ambience. Though I and my friends were always been full of ideas to change this ambience but a kind of closed shell personality, but my dearest professor was always there to help us shape them all into reality. She always supported us, motivated our ideas and guided us and also helped us to organise various days’ celebration, parties, management festival – Genesis 2012 and also to pen down college newsletter too. Under her guidance, our organizing and managing skills have enhanced and we have got broader look of reality of the field work.
With her help I was able to win 1st prize in elocution and essay competition at district level. I was also able to become Class representative as well as the College Student editor. All thanks to her motivation. My skills in communication and presentation have drastically enhanced under her guidance. There was also a time when I and my friends had problems in doing project work and I was completely sad and depressed about criticism and rumours around but she was always there to emotionally strengthen me and to guide me to do all things right.
Not to deny the fact that teacher- student relationship is very unique and it all takes a time to build it strongly, but with Prof.Deepa Makkad, the bond simply gets beautifully build and any student cannot simply escape her compassionate personality along with the perfect blend of intellect , smartness and pragmatic teaching approach. It’s needless to say; Prof.Deepa Makkad is a best mentor and a perfect academician to help us in achieving the desire goals and all round success in our life.
It is truly said that only a great academician can make a place in a student’s persona and successful life, and I am highly blessed to have a such wonderful and finest Professor – Deepa Makkad in my life and finally all I can say about her is ,
“When everyone lost belief in me, she believed in me..!!
When everyone thought I am a gone case, she trusted me..!!
She helped me to keep my career on..!!
She guided me for path on and on..!!”
