A person who imparts knowledge onto us is rightfully known as a teacher. A teacher is the person who moulds a child into an honest and humble as well as a knowledgeable and responsible person.
We find teachers in many phases of our life, but not every teacher bonds with us to such an extent that, we actually start respecting her from the depth of our heart. From childhood till this day I’ve experienced the teaching, love, and care of many teachers. I had a few teachers in school who I still respect, but ‘The Woman’ who I respect the most after my mother as of this day is none other than ‘Prof. Susan Alex’. She is like a mother to not only me, but to a lot of students who have studied under her guidance. I call her ‘The Woman’ because; I have not seen any other woman with such a dynamic and caring personality as hers.
Prof. Susan Alex, ranked 2nd in Economics in Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala. She has done her Master’s degree in Economics, and MBA in Finance. Currently she is pursuing her PhD in Economics from SNDT, and her topic is Public health care in Mumbai. She is the head Co-ordinator for Anna Leela College. She has been teaching in this college for the past 4 years and has successfully shaped the future of many aspiring managers. She was also a visiting faculty at ‘ITM’ Vashi. The subjects that she teaches in Anna Leela College are, Managerial economics – I, Managerial economics – II, Research Methodology, and Indian Management Thoughts and Practices.
‘The Woman’ is a devoted teacher not because students score well in her subjects, but because she makes sure that each and every student has understood the topics which she has taught. Her teaching methods are also unique, for every topic that she teaches, she has an example ready. For children who do not understand English, she talks in Hindi, she teaches in Marathi for the ones who are weak in both Hindi as well as English. She even conducts presentations so that we can develop our presentation skills, for every presentation she gives us an instant feedback.
For me and my friends, ‘The Woman’ is nothing less than a mother figure. We all respect her not only because she teaches us Research Methodology, but because she cares for us just like a mother does. I do not hesitate in sharing any emotional as well as financial problems with her, and she always helps me out in every possible way.
I would like to narrate an incident that includes me, my friends and ‘The Woman’. The incident had occurred last year. Me and my friends bunked lectures for no specific reason and every time we bunked we would hear a loud roar in the college canteen. The roar would go like, “Sean and group go to your lecture”. The moment we heard this roar, all of my friends and me would just run out of the canteen and go to our lecture, because we knew that if ‘The Woman’ got angry then we definitely had it. It was really fun playing that cops and robbers game with ‘The Woman’.
I personally have learnt a lot from, ‘The Woman’. Apart from the subjects, she taught me to be a better person, punctual, a good presenter, and an honest person.
