They say a woman has many avatars. She can be a mother, a daughter, a friend, a sister, a goddess…and most of all, she can be a woman. She has the unique ability to be whatever she wants. In a very uncanny way, she is kind of an epicentre of the world.
Now it’s said that a woman’s chastity is her most precious jewel. And what happens when this jewel is sold? What happens when a woman sells everything that she has to fill stomachs.
Prostitution is not a new thing…it is something that has been going on for ages. It is a part of all the cultures, all across the world.
But the question arising is whether it is really necessary? Such a demeaning job, only for women? Nobody might ever understand their plight. it’s like selling your
soul. Is that what they deserve?
They are treated as mere toys. Toys that can be bought, used and trashed.
We fail to understand that these people have families too. They too have a life to live. They are human too. But they are looked upon as a social disgrace. The so-called society experts, moral heroes have already shunned them out of our so-called pure society where good people stay. But the irony is, the same people would be found at a brothel in the dark of the night where no one seems to recognize them.
We live in a hypocrite society, we declare something as ethically wrong, shun it from being a part of us, but still go out and do the same thing when no one’s watching, deny any change in situation. And then crib! I mean, how many of us would like to be friends with a sex- worker? How many will not look upon them as a menace? How many?
