Spanish Super Cup had a Madrid Derby this year as the La Liga winners Atletico Madrid played Copa Del Rey winners Real Madrid. Real and Atletico Madrid being from same city are fiercest rivals of each other and this trophy has its value increased due to the massive rivalry between the two clubs from Madrid.
It is a match that is played in 2 legs, a home leg and away leg for both the teams and this was the First Leg of the Spanish Super Cup. Real Madrid have made significant signings this season with players like James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos bought while Atletico have sold their star striker Diego Costa to Chelsea alongside few others though they have bought Mario Mandzukic from Bayern Munich and Antoine Griezmann who was left on the bench. It was a match which had Cristiano Ronaldo gone out injured by half time but Real Madrid just had too much of fire power that Atletico Madrid can endure.
Though both the goals of the game came at the dying minutes with Galacticos’ new young star James Rodriguez scoring a goal from deflection and it looked like Real Madrid will be going into the second leg with a lead but it was sheer determination of Atletico Madrid which saw them scoring the equalizer with Raul Garcia scoring a goal with just centimeters away from Iker Casilas. Angel Di Maria did come on and played well but it seems as he will be departing according to some reports and rumours but atleast for now he is a Real Madrid man.
Aletico Madrid look in a pole position with an away goal at Santiago Bernabeu but Real Madrid just have that world class talent that can turn this tie around next week when Real Madrid play away to Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the 2014 Spanish Super Cup.
