Popular television shows ‘Friends, How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory’ have different characters but are basically based on the same premise and are running successfully into multiple seasons.
Is there a pre-defined success mantra or are the audiences so gullible? that these three super-popular shows across the globe are gaining more and more popularity with the same concept doing the rounds.
It all started with ‘Friends’ in the year 1994 which ran successfully for 10 years. The show based on the basic premise of a group of friends and their day to day chaotic and complicated lives and their intertwined relationships that was showcased with a lot of adult humor.
Following suit came up ‘HIMYM’ in the year 2005 which is into its 9th and supposedly final season currently. ‘HIMYM’ isn’t exactly like ‘Friends’ there are differences in the number of lead characters and their stories; but ultimately the characters of ‘HIMYM’ have a combination of the different attributes of the characters of ‘Friends’ in them and so do their background stories.
‘The Big Bang Theory’ another popular show that started in the year 2007 is currently into its 7th season. Running as successfully as its predecessors this show has the same base story line; the only difference is that this time around the characters are ‘Nerds and Geeks’.
These shows being light hearted comedies give you an hour of meaningless yet stress –releasing entertainment.  Hugely influencing the Indian population of today, these shows have proved that the audience isn’t gullible but there is this success mantra that Indian T.V show makers haven’t cashed on yet.
Hopefully Indian television show makers won’t Indianize this concept too much making it loose its charm at the same time will try and attach a few meaningful attributes to the same old concept giving the old recepie a new flavor.
