Situational Style : Depending upon the situation and the follower’s mentally, the leader adopts a style which is suitable in the given situation. He is quite open and adaptable. He is at ease in any situation. Depending on the demand of the situation, the situational style of leadership can either be democratic, goal-oriented, supportive or directive.
The appropriate selection of this leadership style also depends upon two important factors –
(i)Â Â Â Â Â Characteristics of the subordinate : Whether subordinates can be motivated by external stimulus or they are internally motivated and self-confident. In case, followers need external stimulus, leaders direct their followers in detail and plan, organize, direct, control, coordinate and induces motivating factors to achieve goals. However, if the followers are inspired, he uses supportive or participative style.
(ii)Â Â Â Â Nature of Work : The leadership style also depends upon the fact whether the work is of routine nature or innovative.
