“Play the game with the spirit of the game” – Jawaharlal Nehru once said. In common parlance one often hears that everyone should have sportsman spirit in life as life is full of failures and success. It is very important to have the right kind of attitude in life as it changes our approach and perception towards things. Whether it is at home, work, society… anywhere we need sportsman spirit as it is the act of accepting one’s success with humility.
Sports teach a lot of things to an individual and thus shape up ones personality. It is not just the game that a person learns while playing a sport, rather learns the biggest lesson in life and that is to accept ones shortcomings and to not give up. Sportsman spirit is an important virtue and must be cultivated as it helps to build strong relations at home or work and also helps an individual to achieve success.
The main advantages of playing any sport is that it teaches one to cope with failure and disappointment that comes in ones way and to make improved efforts to achieve success next time. After being defeated in a game repeatedly one begins to learn to fight better and also accept the defeat gracefully.
The same applies to one’s life too. There are times when we fail at our jobs or we fail to do our duty or fail in our relationships or we may even lose some great things in life, if we lose hope and curse our fate we can never progress in life.
One should make efforts always to cultivate a sportsman spirit and go through life happily. Sportsman spirit is the reason why cricket is called a gentleman’s game as both the teams are respectable of one another. Even in sports like tennis or boxing the opponents have a ‘handshake’ with each other showing respect.
However what is important is that each and every individual should have sportsman spirit so that one can excel in every sphere of life and not get disappointed with failure but importantly can handle success with grace and humbleness.
