Store Retailer:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Retailing of various products by carrying out operations form store is known as ‘Store Retailing’. Although store retailing is same in the entire store at the back end i.e. purchasing merchandising, distribution, storage, displays etc. With similar factors persisting all over still a classification is made in store retailers based upon their selling strategies.
Store retailers are further classified into:
i.       Specialty Store
ii.      Departmental Store
iii.     Super market
iv.     Convenience Store
v.      Discount Store
(i)Â Â Â Â Â Specialty Store: These types of stores are having narrow product line with deep variety, viz apparel stores, book stores etc. A clothing store would be a single line store, men’s clothing store would be limited line store & men’s custom shirt store would be a super specialty store. Although speciality stores in India are at nascent stage but those who have made their place in the market are showing tremendous increase in their profit margins.
Example: Reliance Retail is having speciality stores for footwear, electronics etc. Food bazaar, Bata, Adidas, Raymond’s are some of the examples of speciality store running successfully in India.
(ii)    Departmental Store: Departmental store is a large retail store offering wide variety of products under one roof separated by different departments. Several Product lines — typically clothing, household goods, home furnishings — with each line operated as a separate department managed by specialist buyers or merchandisers.
Examples of departmental stores operating in India are Globus, Marks & Spencer, Big Bazaar, Benzer, Amarsons etc.
(iii)Â Â Â Supermarkets: Relatively large, low-cost, low-margin, high volume, self-service operation designed to serve total needs for food, laundry & household maintenance products.
Example: Hypercity (Malad).
(iv) Â Â Convenience Stores: These types of stores are relatively small store located near residential area, open long hours, seven days a week and carrying a limited line of high-turnover convenience products at slightly higher prices.
Examples: Apollo pharmacy, Bharat Petroleum.
(v)Â Â Â Â Discount Store: These types of stores offers standard merchandise sold at lower prices with lower margins and higher volumes. True discount stores regularly sell merchandise at lower prices and offer mostly national brands.
Examples: Subhiksha, Apna Bazaar, LOOT.
