An Interview with Asmita Patel, TYBMS Sem 5 Topper, Shailendra College (77%)
To start off with, I am currently working in Bank of Maharashtra and also appearing for sem 6 exams in April 2013. I have worked with event management companies and bank during all 3 years of my BMS. Managing both studies and job was easy as I had managed my time accordingly. In the morning, I used to attend all lectures, then go for job in the afternoon and in the evening I come back home and study. During exam time, I take 1 month’s leave from job. My experience in event management helped me a lot in BMS subjects like PR, HR etc. How to coordinate, how to communicate with people was all practically experienced which made it easy for me to learn theory. Moreover, event management was not a regular job. During holidays, I can study also. Subject-wise the following are my marks:
Human Resource Management – 70
Service Sector Management – 83
Financial Management- 75
Logistics Management – 72
Business Ethics – 87
Special Studies in Finance – 78
In HRM, its all about management of the company/organization. Its full of theory. One just has to listen to lectures and read concepts. Before exams, refer your books/notes. Imagine yourself as an HR and how would you manage your office… that makes it easy. Moreover, our faculties used to give a lot of examples.
Service Sector Management – while I was working in an event management company, I got to know that consumers are more concerned about quantity and quality. Service sector was all about how to handle the customers, how to get the proper feedback when service is provided etc.
FM and SSF – just attend college lectures, solve sums and practice at home
Logistics – I had heard that many students fail in logistics. But that’s not true. Refer to your college faculty notes, make points and write real-life examples.
Business ethics – I completely depended on the textbook. The basic concept which revolves around business ethics is “what is good and what is bad”.
Apart from studies, I have also participated in sports and many other college fests including AROMA –my college fest.
Success mantra – Attend every lecture then easily you can score marks. 20 marks depends on your regular attendance, presentation and communication skills and 20 marks depends on your performance in internals. Don’t you think it easy to score in BMS as 40 marks is in our hands.
Always remember first give importance to lectures, then other any cultural activities and then internship/job.
You guys know “if you want to manage, you can manage anything”. Its all our wish.
I have heard a lot of ATKT students keep saying that “hum logon ko pata nahi ki fail kaise ho gaye. Sab kuch toh likha tha. Examiner ne theek se check nahi kiya hoga”.
Guys, it all depends on how much you write and what you write. Study more, practice more. Don’t keep thinking “Examiner ne gussa nikala and bullshit”.
After BMS, I want to do IELTS from British council and go Australia for MMS (finance) as Finance jobs are available more.
