Interview with John Peter D’souza, TYBMS Sem 5 Topper 2013-14, Sanpada College Of Commerce and Technology who scored 73.28% and GPA Score – 6.57
How does it feel to be a Topper in the university exams? Whom will you credit your success to? What was your success mantra? It feels much good being the topper of the college. After holding rank between top five for the last four semesters and then suddenly holding the first position is just a dream come true for me. I will let the credit go to the Professors, BMS.co.in, competitors and last but not the least my friends. As I have mentioned earlier, I’m not the all time topper so basically there was not any success mantra for my achievement. But yes there is one mantra which always motivates me is “Study with Clarity and Do not leave your course work to the last minute”.
Did you prepare any timetable and please share your study strategy/exam tips to crack each subject of sem 5?
There was nothing such time table prepared but on the other hand if students attend lectures regularly will help them crack BMS easily. Considering semester five the students opted for SSF had two accounts subjects of SSF and FM rest all are theory subjects. So students should concentrate more on the account subjects as they are more scoring then the theory papers. And talking about theory one should be clear about the concepts of the chapters and examples.
Do you think BMS student require coaching classes or is self-study enough? Had you joined any coaching class for a particular subject?
It all depends upon the ability of the student there are many people who have cleared the sem 5 without coaching classes. And on the other hand there are others who have flunked. I opted coaching for SSF and FM subjects.
What was your specialization subject? Why did you opt for it?
I opted SSF as my specialization subject. The reason behind it was my interest in accounts and as we all know accounts are always been a scoring subjects if attempted properly.
Can you list the textbooks you referred for all subjects?
Only for FM I referred Vipul Prakashan rest all Rishab Publication
Which was your worst paper? Why? Which was your best paper? Why?
None of the paper was bad or worst but considering marks HRM marks made my score go down. And on the other side the best paper was SSF and FM. The reason was as I was well prepared for accounts.
Today, we often come across students committing suicide out of failure, depression or tension of exams. What do you have to say about this? Did you use any special techniques for stress management?
It is completely wrong for any student to commit suicide or harm their self in any ways. If we look into the past or just see 5 yrs back scenario student had only TV and computers to pass their time and feel relaxed but now there are many things which can make you stress free. I personally used to go out with friends. The best thing to remove stress was having Biryani in Shalimaar (Nerul) with my friends.
The Black Book project contributing a significant part to the percentage, please share the experiences you had during the preparation of the project and how has it benefited you.
I prepared the project on Working Capital Management. The marks of project helped and gave a big boom to my aggregate marks. I started making the project in the month of June 2013 I really appreciate the help of my friends to complete my project. The project on working capital management helped me to get a deeper knowledge of the topic.
Did you pursue any additional courses/ internships alongside BMS? What are your future plans?
I didn’t do any additional courses or internships. I’m planning to do MBA in finance.
Any tips and advises for your juniors?
Well juniors don’t worry study as you do, just concentrate on concepts of that topics and work hard on the examples part. Think and prepare examples as much as you can because if the answer doesn’t work then only examples are the thing which will save your answer.
