There have been so phrases to describe my city, Mumbai. For me, there can be no other city as good as Mumbai. Oh yes, of course, it has many flaws, but this city’s warmth and hospitality overcomes all it shortcomings. You have to visit my city at least once. Believe me; you are going to love it.
Mumbai is big. It’s full of dreamers and hard laborers, actors and gangsters, fisher folks and millionaires. It is the central hub of Bollywood, one of Asia’s biggest slums, the largest tropical forest in urban zone, India’s financial power house, fashion capital, the place where all religions meet. This city has it all…..
I do understand its not just overwhelming that there must be times when you must have almost died in that over-crowded Virar local, or in that auto/taxi which didn’t move for an hour or more because Mumbai’s traffic jam. But you got to live here to dance along its playful rhythm.
There are times in the year where Mumbai could be at its extreme best liked Diwali, Ganesh Chathurthi and so on. Whether you follow Ganpati Bappa, Rama, Jesus or Allah, you can’t resist yourself from getting involved in these celebrations. The fireworks, processions, the atmosphere is something you’ll miss terribly when you are not in the city.
Star-spotting is a favorite past time in Mumbai’s posh areas, be it, Lokhandwala, Juhu, Bandra etc. Their faces appear on the big screen and in advertisement and here; you can easily spot them around.
It would be offensive on my part if I talk about Mumbai and not include Vada-pav. Everyday thousands of vada’s are fried and placed in pav bread coated with the fiery red chutney quick enough to keep Mumbai’s unending appetite. Mumbaikars have a spicy love affair with the extra-spicy Pav-Bhaji, Panipuri, Bhel, Sev-puri and the list is endless. The city that is always rushing, a cutting-chai always comes for the Mumbaikars who are always on the move.
And that’s not it. The city is loved for its fantastic architecture. The Haji Ali darbar, a floating mosque on a tiny island is worth million visits. Our brand new Bandra-Worli sea link bridge or the spell bound sunset at Marine Lines, are treats for the eyes.
There is so much more to the beauty of Mumbai. I can never have enough of this ‘City Of Dreams’. MUMBAIKARS FOREVER.!!!
