Industrial Law is a Theory Subject which deals with Laws related to Industrial Disputes, Relations, Health, Safety, Welfare, Social Legislations and Compensation Management. The Acts are difficult to remember but these laws are very important in manufacturing companies.
Since Law is a subject which everyone should know, Industrial Law helps to know the legal boundaries and follow the procedures of the companies. But in reality, one may find that these laws are outdated and requires drastic changes.
Your Syllabus for this subject is as follows:
1.     Laws related to Industrial Relation and Industrial Disputes
Industrial Disputes Act, 1947
(Definitions, authorities award and settlement, strikes,
lockouts, layoffs, retrenchment and closure)
The Trade Unions Act, 1926.
2.     Laws related to health, Safety and Welfare
The factories Act, 1948
(Provisions related to approval, licensing, registration,
Inspecting staff, health safety and welfare)
3.     Social Legislation’s
Employees State Insurance Act, 1948 (Committees Councils
and various benefits)
Provision Act, 1948 (Schemes, administration and
determination of dues)
4.     Laws related to Compensation Management
The Payment of Wages Act, 1948 (Objectives, Definitions
authorized deductions)
The minimum Wages Act, 1948
TIPS:
- With law the most important thing to keep in mind is that dates and sections need to be learnt perfectly, by-heart.
- The content and description of your answers if given in your own words, with your own understanding will do.
- Legal terms can be confusing and difficult to remember, try learning those and using them in your answers, they provide an added leverage to your presentation and get you more marks.
- You cannot do law last minute as the amount of syllabus you need to cover up is a lot.
- Make notes as much as per your understanding, get them approved by your faculty and refer those while studying.
- Do not write ‘self-answers’ because getting facts correct in a subject like Law is a must.
- Increase the length of your answers as much as you can, a very short answer in this subject won’t fetch you marks.
- If the length increases so should your speed of writing because the time duration for your examination is going to be the same.
- Try to understand the subject instead of running away from it; Industrial law can turn out to be very interesting.
