1) International Romani / Roma Day is celebrated on 8th April every year to raise awareness of the problems faced by Romani people.
2) The day is not just an opportunity to celebrate Roma culture but also highlights the discrimination that Roma people face in all areas of life.
3) The day was officially declared in 1990 in the 4th World Romani Congress of International Romani Union (IRU) in Serock, Poland in honor of the international meeting of Romani representativesÂ
4) Roma people are often stereotyped and negative perceptions are embedded by some media and parts of the European public.
5) The Government must set examples and challenge such social prejudices that foster discrimination and ensure the equality o Roma citizens.
