One of Bollywood’s senior and most loved actresses Rani Mukherji turns 36 today. As we wish her a very Happy Birthday, we go back in time and pick out  some of her best performances till date.
1) Ghulam (1998):
‘Ghulam’ directed by Vikram Bhatt starring Rani Mukherji and Aamir Khan was commercially successful. It boasted of strong performances from both its leads. The song’ Aati Kya Khandala’ became a huge hit and ‘Ghulam’ received a Filmfare nomination for Best Film.
2) Saathiya:
Starring  Rani Mukherji and Vivek Oberio , Shaad Ali’s Saathiya was a turning point in Rani’s career . The film, which was a remake of Tamil film Alaipayuthey, told the tale of how a couple passionately in love with each other and run away from their respective homes to be together.  Rani won the Filmfare Best Actress award(Critics Choice) and was nominated for Filmfare Best Actress.
3) Kuch Kuch Hota Hai  (1998):
Karan Johar’s blockbuster Kuch Kuch Hota hai was a super duper hit and it was commercially successful too. Rani’s role as the sizzling hot Tina in  ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ is remembered till date along with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. Her performance as the sweet, sexy and sophisticated principal’s daughter who falls in love with the popular guy in college earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.
4) Hum Tum (2004):
Rani’s role in romcom ‘Hum Tum’ won millions’s hearts. She played the bubbly and fun-loving Rhea opposite Saif Ali Khan. She beautifully portrayed a mature side of herself in the film when she played the role of a widow. Her amazing chemistry with Saif made the film a huge hit. Rani won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress that year.
5) Bunty aur Babli (2004):
Paired opposite Abhishek Bachchan, Rani’s character  Vimmi ‘Babli Saluja was a congirl. ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ became one of the biggest successes that year and Rani’s character was even responsible for bringing the ‘patiala-style-suit’ into fashion.
6) Yuva (2004):
Another notable performance by Rani Mukherji featured in Mani Ratnam’s ‘Yuva’, where she played the role of a Bengali housewife while her husband was Abhishek Bachchan who was a goon in the film. Yuva starring Ajay Devgn, Esha Deol, Vivek Oberoi, Kareen Kapoor, Om Puri and Sonu Sood, ‘Yuva’ became a huge commercial hit . Rani walked away with the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress that year.
7) Black (2005):
The best performnace  of Rani Mukherji till date in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Black’, where she portrayed a deaf and blind girl, who later discovers life and light thanks to her teacher, played by Amitabh Bachchan. Both their performances were praised and acclaimed. She received the Filmfare Award for Best Actress and Best Actress (critic’s choice).
8) No One Killed Jessica (2011):
Based on the real-life murder of Jessica Lal, Rajkumar Gupta’s ‘No One Killed Jessica’ featured Rani who played the role of a courageous & determined news reporter, Meera Gaity, who helps the victim’s sister played by Vidya Balan get justice. The film was well-received and earned Rani the Filmfare award for Best Supporting Actress.
