Exports from SSI Sector:

     The value of exports from the small-scale industries (SSI) has been rising from year to year. The value of SSI exports increased from Rs 1643 crore in 1980-81 to Rs 99027 crore in 2004-05. This increase in SSI exports is mainly due to the promotional measures undertaken by the government as well as the entrepreneurial push.

     If the exports of powerlooms, handicrafts, handlooms & khadi are included, the share of SSI sector is likely to be nearly half of the total. Total exports of small sector increased from Rs 19,338 crore in 1990-91 to Rs 150250 crores in 2004-05. Even in the global market, the SSI units have been successful in enlarging their share every year. This goes to prove that the SSI sector is quite significant in the ever-changing economic scenario.
