Why India is lagging behind in Sports

In recent years India has been developing in the world of sports but overall it is still nothing, while India being world’s second largest population still have very few big names in sports around the world. Let us have some possibilities why India is behind in sports.

Let us first take money into consideration. Cricket is a sport where the players earn huge amount of money and gain massive popularity and ironically it is a sport where India is so ahead with a big name. In other sports Indian players don’t earn that amount or don’t have that popularity. When India won the cricket world cup every one knew that players got great paychecks, massive media coverage and crazy fan dom.

Imagine if India wins hockey world cup will they get the same luxuries as the cricketers, of course not. I am not talking about hockey here but there are some medalist whose name never comes into picture and even though they have won a medal for the country no one really cares or knows about it. Even the government announces award of couple of lacs rupees which never reaches to the winner. India is one of the most corrupted and one of the worst countries and when it comes to money Indians just praise the money.

Another reason can be lack of facilities for nurturing the young talent and making them world class in respective sports. Would a young child really imagine about making a career in sports if there is no possibility of making himself better. Look at Australia, US, China, England, they have all the support to fulfill the dreams of a person.

They have got technology, coaches, training centers, financial stability and influence to help a child become a star and what does India have, outdated technology, lack of training centers or coaches for people who can’t afford it, no financial stability at all.

Corruption as mentioned earlier is also a root cause. India being so corrupted has the worst reputation in the eyes of foreign nations. Remember commonwealth games fiasco, that is a good example to show how Indians are in decline and they don’t care about the dignity of the country as the only thing corrupted Indians want is Money.

There is anything we can do about it? Tough to say but Indians have progressed a bit in sports and may be in next few decades we might see good people around who will build India and make it a sporting nation.
