As much anxiety surrounded the members of Narendra Modi’s Cabinet and the portfolios there is much hush and ho about the appointments made. But what really bewilders me is the fact that why is Smriti Irani being targeted alone? Such a big issue being made out of a affidavit by Congress but they simply go mum when questioned about the educational qualifications of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. Smriti Irani assumed office on 27th May, 2014 and invited a controversy from the congress.
Indian politicians are known for their speeches and not their education qualifications for years now. So why is the Congress targeting Smriti alone? Is it because she is a woman who was once a Miss India contestant and later the famous ‘bahu’ on television? Have they forgotten her political career has been long enough and stand with meatier work than her telly stint. But I feel it’s much more than she just being a woman. Congress feels pinched by the important portfolio she is going to manage since she is known for delivering work. They feel jealous of the fact that she has entered NaMo’s cabinet at 38. They are insecure of the aggressive and strong approach of Smriti who gave Rahul a run for his votes in Amethi by merely campaigning for a month.
Uma Bharti who is just a 5th pass and also a part of the same cabinet as Smriti is not being questioned maybe because of her long political career. What about the other male members of the cabinet who are 10th and 12th pass? Well Congress seems to have a short-lived memory of the members of their cabinet who weren’t much more than 10th and 12th pass and there were a few whose educational background and portfolio’s weren’t in sync.
If educational background and line of work were to be in direct proportion India would have been at a different level today with Dr. Manmohan Singh being the PM and P.Chidambaram being the Finance Minister. But India suffered the most economically with the leadership of such scholars.
Smriti Irani’s clean image, hard work, honesty, rationality, communication skills, etc are being ignored by those who are being judgemental because of her educational background. I think her critics are only challenging her to perform better with all these allegations and controversies. It is very well known that to perform what one needs the most is will. Dedication and commitment to ones work are virtues which even good education can’t guarantee.
This one is for you Smriti, “whatever women do they must do twice as well as men to be thought half as good. Luckily, this is not difficult – Charlotte Whitton”. And as far as for the Congress is concerned I think they couldn’t understand the people’s mandate yet. India today wants performance driven leaders. We no longer fancy the royal family legacy. My parting thought for Sonia Gandhi is ‘kyunki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi’ and members of Congress kindly look into your own cabinet before pointing out at anyone.
