A grand gathering of around 4000 people at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on 26th May for the swearing in of the Prime Minister of the largest democracy of the world. India got its 15th Prime Minister yesterday. An august gathering of people from all walks of life came together to witness Mr. Modi take the mantle of the Prime Minister of India.
The ex Presidents of India Mrs. Pratibha Singh and Mr. APJ Abdul Kalam were the ones who were seated at the front. Industrialists like Mr. Mukesh Ambani and Mr. Adani; Bollywood celebrities Salman Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Anupam Kher accompanied wife Kirron Kher; Allies were also present with Shiv Sena’s Udhav Thackeray entering with his entire family. Former Prime Minister came with his wife and Sonia Gandhi came along Rahul Gandhi; P Chidambaram and Praful Patel were some of the people attending, who held important portfolio’s in the previous government. The presence of these heavyweights just signified the importance of the ceremony.
The ceremony was the largest event ever organized at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The feeling of pride and elation was evident on the face of the senior most leader of BJP – Advaniji who was accompanied by his daughter. He greeted everyone including leaders of the opposition and was blessing each and every member who came to greet him. Most of the people who were going to swear in came to seek his blessings. However it was Narendra Modi’s entry which brought in energy and enthusiasm as everyone cheered ‘NaMo NaMo’ and clapped for him.
The ceremony was well organised and systematically conducted. It was remarkable to see a compact Cabinet of 45 members and what is noteworthy is that the people he has chosen are not because of certain political tie ups or relations but it was clearly evident that a lot of thought has been put in selecting the members. NaMo has chosen people according to:-
Seniority like Mr. Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj;
Ability like Mr. Arun Jaitley, Ravi Prasad;
Experience like Mr. Gopinath Munde, Mr. Nitin Gadkari;
Fair Chance like Mrs. Smriti Irani, Gen. VK Singh, etc.
His selection of the cabinet and keeping Defence to himself gives out a strong message of the type of government that is in the making. Mr. Modi commands power, dignity, integrity and responsibility. The presence of the PM’s/President of the SAARC nations for the first time ever was a clear indicator how propelled they were to meet the man elected by the largest democracy of the world.
With a lot of hope and anticipation of all that Mr. Modi should do or would do, we need to hold our breath and have a little patience and give the man some time to settle in his new shoes. But here’s hoping our new Prime Minister and his Cabinet perform as per their promises – acche din aane wale hain.
